Welcome to my first ever Blog. I will try to do this as regularly as i can so here goes.

Well hello, last week was Freshers week so its boom time for me when it comes to work. After a summer of jetting here there and everywhere around Europe (well Malia and Ibiza but lets make it sound a little more rock ‘n’ roll shall we) it’s back on the game. Strangely, 12 months ago i had a day job and was still doing 5 nights a week all over the midlands from Nottingham to Cheltenham. Now, all my work is local which in this day and age with the petrol prices the way they are, is a very nicely timed bonus. Actually, don’t even get me started on petrol prices.

Soooo, on to the week. Its been hectic, and when i mean hectic i actually got a bit stressed which for those who know me and especially those who used to work with me is very hard to believe.

Sunday was the opening of Freshers week in Wolverhampton. We were a bit quiet but still had a good night with the “cool it” gang. It was to be expected though as the official welcome party was at Oceana round the corner from us. “Cool It” are a promotions and events company who specialise in running Student Nights all over the UK. I’ve not worked with them for long but i don’t think i’ve met any promoter as genuine as Paul who is over the Wolverhampton and Walsall area. Top top bloke!!!
I popped into Oceana after i’d finished to see a few mates and ended the night in there.

Monday saw the opening night of Honeytrap at WS1 in Walsall. DJ Darryl Williams was at his usual best in the main room and was a good night after a slow start but again that was to be expected with the other events going on in the town. Honeytrap is a brand new student night at WS1 which is Walsall’s biggest and best nightclub. The plan is for me to be in the Indie and Party room upstairs and Darryl playing R&B, Garage, Bassline downstairs. More about Darryl in a sec but it should work well as our styles are very different so will give students a wide range of music to enjoy under one roof.

Tuesday daytime was spent trying to make sure my CD collection is up to date, and luckily it is. It’s taken months to get it all sorted and i’ve now just got to get used to where everything is. Oh it’s a tough job lol.
The night was technically a night off although i did squeeze a bit of work in but more to follow up on that in my next blog….
Went to Yates’s in Wolverhampton, beach party for the students so i donned the shorts and off i went. Picked my mate Fletch up. Fletch has been a legend over the past few weeks, helping me out with various promotion things and we’ve had some quality nights out lately. It was a good night, Yates’s was packed and had to get my good mate DJ James Ball to let us in as neither of us, me or Fletch have received our NUS cards yet, must have got lost in the post! Funny that :-)))

Wednesday was the launch of Flannigans’ Wednesday Night Project. The night started really slowly, and i mean reaaalllllyyyyy slllooooooow. We were all panicking a bit but we kept the faith and it turned out really good in the end. About what the gang were expecting so a decent start.

On Thursday i met up with an old work colleague of mine, James Roper, for a lunchtime beer. Its always good to see old mates every now and then and if i’m honest i miss the people i worked with back then but totally don’t miss the job so still…. no regrets!!
It’s always good when 1.45 comes round and i know i’ve got the afternoon to do whatever and they’re all working hard at their desks hehe. Sorry all you 9 to fivers

I decided to have the night off as DJ Darryl (mentioned earlier) had offered me a couple of tickets to the opening of Gatecrasher Birmingham. Darryl is well known in these parts and has just landed a residency in the Urban Room at Crasher so even if you’re not into your dance music there is something for you at the new club on Broad Street.
Obviously, doing what i do, i don’t get out much so i decided to go along. I picked my good friend Janine up and went along. We got there about 9.40ish and the queue was huge so was a bit worried we wouldn’t get in.
We did though so all was okay!!
Now, good points to the former “Works” club are… very nice looking venue, good sound system and lights and i thought it was very well laid out. Looked spectacular. Bad points though were, getting served at the bar was a nightmare, 3 of the rooms were playing the same music early on and there didnt seem to be any atmosphere in the main room but i guess it was an invite only night so things may be different on a packed Saturday. All in all though a very nice venue.
The night ended on a sour note though with me blaming Janine for a couple of things that happened. Now, i’m going to be a man and admit i was wrong and shouldn’t have taken it out on her so i had some apologising to do on Saturday when we next met up. Sometimes I just have to admit things were my fault!! But hey, we’re fine now…

Friday night was the launch of SPUNK, yes SPUNK @ Walkabout in Wolverhampton. 2 rooms open and a fantastic night. We had Spartan from the Gladiators there and by all accounts he was very entertaining.
Its always a lot more enjoyable when you have a crowd who are bang up for it and if this Friday was anything to go by then this night is going to take over. Cheap entry and cheap drinks. Now you can’t beat that for a way to start your weekend.

Saturday was a lovely day weather wise so I decided to Beer Garden it although I did get up quite late which didnt leave me much of the day left to do much but hey.
Now, for all the footy fans out there… Is it time for goal line technology?? I’m not going to go deep into this because you’re probably bored already, but take Watford v Reading for example, now i need say no more!!
Newcastle are going down the pan, and who the hell is going to want that job. Give it Denis Wise i say

My usual Saturday night is at Maya on The Waterfront. We have had 2 massive weeks so i guess were due a quieter one. Still had a decent crowd and went till 3 so not all bad, maybe i’m just greedy haha. It is coming up to the end of the month though and for a few friends of mine, pay day can’t come fast enough… You know who you are, gambling addicts lol.

Sunday was a chill out day, watched a bit of footy, Albion v Villa and the 2nd half of Chelsea v Man U. Man City are going great guns, i’ve got a cheeky bet on them to win the league so fingers crossed. Now Pompey ain’t a bad side so to stick 6 past them, who knows!!!

Anyways, that was my week.. I’m not going to do this all the time as you’ll get so bored of me but i’m just testing it all out, honest!!

Thanks for reading and who knows, this blog could appear in a “Guide to cure Insomnia” sooner than you think.

PS: Tuesday 23rd September is Bar Crawl Wolverhampton night. T-shirts cost £10 and the night is legendary so do not miss out. You can get them from Walkabout anytime. Make sure you do okay!!!!
